P & H American Wagyu Beef Cattle
P & H Farms is proud to breed, raise, and finish American Wagyu beef cattle. We breed Angus-based cows to Black Wagyu bulls on our farms in Western Kentucky. Since 1997, we have taken pride in the conditions our cattle are raised and finished in, their nutrition, and the beef quality produced. In 2018, we began our American Wagyu herd, and have maintained our standard of excellence with our cattle. The process of producing a premium American Wagyu begins in the pasture where our calves graze for the first 8 months of their lives and are finished in a bed-pack barn for approximately 16 months before they are locally processed. Our beef is sold locally to other companies, to individuals in half and whole cuts, and to our storefront in Eddyville, Kentucky.

Detailed Records
After almost 30 years of raising cattle, we have prioritized keeping complete and accurate records of every animal on our farm. The record keeping process begins at inception and follows the calf throughout it's life. We document their nutrition rations, health programs, pasture locations, weights, and meat grades after processing. Our goal is to improve our herd and we feel we can do that best with complete documentation.
Bed-Pack Barn
Controlling the environment we finish our cattle in is important to the health and happiness of the animal, which translates into the quality of our beef. The bed-pack barns that we have built on our operation are large enough to hold 800 head of cattle and have a soft layer of sawdust that is turned 3-4 times each week. The bed-pack barn is a partially covered structure that keeps the cattle comfortable in all weather conditions and allows the herd access to an outdoor loafing area. The sawdust in the barn is replaced twice a year, and upon the semi-annual clean-out, we use the compost from the barn to fertilize our crops.
Vertical Integration
Vertical integration is a key component of every aspect of our farm, so the cattle operation is no exception. The majority of the feed our herd consumes is grown and harvested on our farm. Our cattle's diet is a mixture of corn and roughage blends of silage and straw, all grown on P & H Farms. We use the compost from our bed-pack barns to fertilize our row crops throughout the year, which naturally improves our soil health, and integrates the two sectors of our business.
Quality Beef
Since starting our American Wagyu herd, we have kept quality records for each animal that has been processed. We are proud to say that close to 90% of our American Wagyu cattle have been graded as USDA Prime beef. Having quality records and general cattle records for our herd allows us to breed, raise, and finish exceptional beef. We purchase replacement Black Angus heifers to improve the genetics of our herd, and purchase registered Japanese Wagyu bulls to breed a high-end American Wagyu calf. We add minerals and supplements to our cattle feed rations but never give our herd hormones or antibiotics. Our goal is to produce consistent, high-quality, delicious beef while maintaining the herd's health and well-being to do so.
